The Pirate and the Mermaid

By Tryphena Louise Williams (c) 2010

The pirate he sailed his ship upon the sea
Searching for treasure if there was any to be

The pirate had spent his life all alone
Forever sailing the sea as he did roam

No home he had of which he was glad
To stay in one place would drive him mad

Then one day out of the ocean blue
He watched a mermaid swim into view

The mermaid she swum up alongside
The lonely pirate his joy he couldn't hide

The mermaid whispered so enticingly
Come live with me in the deep blue sea

Such an invite the pirate could not ignore
Having never seen a mermaid like her before

So enchanted was the pirate of the sea
As the mermaid flashed her tail for him to see

Into the waves they both did go
Swimming to the ocean floor far below

The pirate’s lungs they yearned for more air
As mermaid spoke, bubbles started appear

The pirate he gobbled down one or two
His lungs now full he studied the view

The pirate had never ever seen before
Such was the beauty of the ocean floor

The mermaid beckoned the pirate to follow
Into her home of a clam covered hollow

It is here the pirate he had met his match
His heart jumped for joy seeing her tail detach

Love at first sight this was meant to be
For the lonely pirate that roamed the sea

The pirates delight was plain to see
As he enjoyed her playful company

The pirate he loved her even more
Her gentle ways he'd never known before

His only wish was that she would stay
As light drew near she'd swim away

The lonely pirate is such happy man
His home is now her giant size clam
